Every child deserves to live without worrying about where their next meal is coming from, but that’s not the reality for too many in our community. Over half a million Arizona school children are getting free or reduced lunches each day. Another 260,100 Arizona students get breakfasts at schools, according to the Food Action & Research Center. In Arizona, 1 in 7 people, and 1 in 4 children struggle with hunger.
As part of our commitment to the local Phoenix community, Freedom Financial Network has joined forces with a few local food pantries to provide non perishable food items to children in the Phoenix area during the summer. Earlier today, Oasis Food Pantry picked up over 5,000 pounds of food that Freedom Financial Network employees donated over the past month. “We know that kids in the greater Phoenix area struggle with where their next meal is going to come from” says Rasheeda James, director of community events and culture for Freedom Financial Network. “This food drive is a step in the right direction to make sure that these kids have one less thing to worry about. In addition to the food that was collected we also raised $2,500 to help these organizations feed children when there is a lack of food donations.”
Freedom Financial Network has two more food donation drives planned for the coming weeks, including one for the Ironwood Cancer Center and another for Saint Vincent De Paul.
