“Getting out of debt has been a breeze with Freedom Debt Relief on our side.”
Nadia, FDR Client

Get The Facts

From the day we started helping people overcome debt in 2002, Freedom Debt Relief has stayed committed to creating great outcomes for our clients. So when we learned of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) complaint against us, we were deeply disappointed. We firmly believe they fundamentally misunderstand how debt settlement works and how FDR helps consumers who are in financial distress. We want to set the record straight.

The claim that FDR can’t settle accounts with certain creditors isn’t true

FDR can settle debts owed to all creditors, either with the creditor or with an agent of the creditor.

FACT: Since 2010, FDR has settled $1.2 billion in debt (nearly 200,000 accounts) for clients who came to us with accounts from the credit card issuers mentioned in the CFPB’s complaint.

FDR agrees with the mission of the CPFB: consumers should be protected

Not every company embraces consumer protections and leads industry discussion about how to best serve consumers. FDR does. As the leaders in debt relief, we see it as our responsibility to make it harder for bad actors to take advantage of consumers. That’s why we have worked with states and legislatures to protect consumers who need it most.

FACT: FDR actively participated in the development of the 2010 Federal Trade Commission rules that govern our industry.

The entire FDR culture is defined by putting people first

Every day we work hard to create the best outcomes for our clients, and we are proud of the positive feedback we get from so many of them. We get our clients’ approval on each and every settlement we negotiate. If the client doesn’t approve the settlement, we don’t charge one cent for it.

FACT: When asked if they would recommend FDR to other people who are struggling with debt, 76% of our current clients said “Yes!”

Helping people overcome debt for 15 years
  • Since 2002, FDR has resolved over $8 billion in consumer debt.
  • In October 2017, FDR settled $175 million for 43,000 clients for an average settlement of less than 50 cents on the dollar — that’s over $88 million we saved our clients in one month alone.
